VOCATIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAMME

VEP was started in 1976-77 under the programme of Vocationalisation of Higher Secondary Education in general education institutions. A variety of vocational courses of two years duration in the area of Agriculture, Business and Commerce, Engineering and Technology, Home Science, Health and Paramedical and Humanities are being offered by schools. The programme aims to provide skills through production and service oriented courses to reduce the mismatch between the skills acquired by pupil with those required by the employee/market, thereby reducing the aimless pursuit to higher education. The programme also helps in developing entrepreneurial spirit, motivation and competencies needed to organise and run an entrepreneurial venture.

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION DEFINITION

Vocational Education in a much broader sense cover education and skill development at all levels from post primary to tertiary education- both through formal and non-formal programmes.
