ABOUT US

Pandit Sunderlal Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE), a constituent unit of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), was established on 5th July, 1993 at Bhopal. The NCERT, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India with its headquarter at New Delhi is an apex Research and Development organisation in the field of school education. The NCERT created a work experience cell in 1973, which was later christened as Work Experience and Vocationalisation of Education Unit in 1975. The reorganisation of Council's Departments and Units in 1979 saw the emergence of two Units : (i) Socially Useful Productive Work Unit and (ii) Vocationalisation of Education Unit. During the subsequent reorganisation in 1984, the two units were merged to form the Department of Vocationalisation of Education (DVE). The National Seminar on Vocationalisation of Education (1984) recommended the setting up of a Central Institute of Vocational Education to cope up with the proliferation of work in vocational education. The Programme of Action (POA) document of National Policy on Education (1986) provided for the setting up of CIVE. The President of India declared in his address at the joint session of Parliament that the Government of India has decided to establish CIVE. It was the beginning of transformation of DVE into PSSCIVE. The PSSCIVE was set up to provide intensive technical and academic support to the formal and non-formal vocational education programme in the country. It is also working as one of the centres of UNESCO's International Project on Technical and Vocational Education (UNEVOC).
